Smart Waste

In order to improve the efficiency of the collection and rise therefore the percentage of recycled waste, TheCircularLab works on the development of Smart Waste, an innovative technological and information and management platform that applies artificial intelligence and big data in order to improve the efficiency of the collection, selection and recycling of packaging processes. The objective of Smart Waste is to move forward in the implementation of an effective model of smart city starting from a data collecting tool that’s able to amplify the knowledge about the impact of waste management.

Smart Waste

Spain currently has 95 sorting plants where all packaging deposited in yellow containers is received in order to turn into a new raw material. To progress in modernizing processes, TCL has bet on industry 4.0 –Plant 4.0- by means of developing new control and optimization technologies for the treatment cycle as well as working on the optimization of efficiency in identification and automatic incoming waste tracking and flow control in sorting plants. All that is added to logistic chain analysis, vision and artificial intelligence system design and robot selection system implementation.

Ecoembes has targeted a recycling rate of 80% by 2020. It is a feasible percentage, but requires to continue working in order to achieve the recycling society. This aim will lead to innovation in areas such as automatic quality control of outgoing materials, quality certification of materials and development of digital logistics management systems for the recyclers.

TheCircularLab also works to integrate into its projects any innovation that affects life cycle global container – from its origin until it is given a new use – through Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), a tool for calculating the environmental benefits of proper waste management.

El Proyecto IMPETUS 4.0 tiene como principal objetivo generar conocimiento científico-técnico y herramientas clave que apoyen a la toma de decisiones sobre futuras inversiones en plantas de selección de envases ligeros, con el fin de mejorar su eficiencia y productividad en España y en Europa.

SEPARA – Transformación tecnológica del Sector de valorización de residuos para impulsar una economía circular efectiva en la industria española

SEPARA tiene por objetivo sentar las bases para la transformación digital inteligente de plantas de selección de residuos, con la finalidad de incrementar significativamente la eficiencia y la productividad de sus procesos, así como impulsar futuros proyectos de I+D que habiliten a todo el sector de gestión de residuos para abordar los exigentes retos que se le plantean en las próximas décadas.
